Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, who is playing for Spanish football club Real Madrid, has been selected as the UEFA Player of the Year. Ronaldo took the award on Thursday night. He helped Real Madrid win the UEFA Champions League for the second consecutive time in the last season. Last year, Portugal also got the title of European champion. 

The names of Gianluigi Buffon, who played for Barcelona for the title included Lionel Messi of Argentina and Italy's club Juventus, were also included.
